Today's issue is brought to you by High Performance Founder. They help high-achieving entrepreneurs get lean, boost energy & build confident-looking bodies in a way that supports their busy lifestyle.
I have a love-hate relationship with cardio.
On the one hand, I hate it because many people use it as their primary method to burn fat.
It doesn't burn as much as one would think and combined with a diet it can make people lose muscle.
On the other hand, it's amazing for your health. Having a greater lung capacity is a marker for a longer life.
This is why I've put an emphasis on increasing my lung capacity.
I'm gonna start by testing my VO2 max. Then I'm gonna use 4 unique exercises to strengthen my lungs.
I did a video on those exact exercises that you can watch over here.
Remember:
Cardio for burning fat is overrated.
Cardio for overall health and longevity is underrated.
It's the intent that matters most.
4 Ways To Become a Better Human
1. Start your workouts barefoot
Before doing lower body exercises like the squat or deadlift perform a few reps in your socks or barefoot.
Doing so increases your awareness of stability & balance, which gives you the potential for improved technique and performance.
2. Dopamine Rewards
Most people get their dopamine hits from cheap, synthetic experiences that have been engineered to make you addicted.
· Social media
· Alcohol
· Junk food
· Video games
For a better relationship with dopamine, you want them to come from high-effort activities.
· Creation
· Discovery
· Movement/exercise
· Working towards a goal
3. Breathing Rules
Mouth breathing puts your nervous system in a sympathetic state.
For increased energy and adrenaline breathe through your mouth.
Breathing through the nose puts your nervous system in a parasympathetic state.
For calmness and relaxation breathe through your nose.
4. Film your workouts
The best way to find out how well you lifting is to video yourself.
You can only get so much from looking at a mirror. Taking a video of your lifts shows you the truth of how you're performing.
Video'ing your lifts is not just for TikTok influencers.
Everyone who lifts should video themselves as a way of keeping honest.
Client of the Week - Zach Barnhill, Entrepreneur
Zach is an entrepreneur who struggled with weekend eating and being on a routine.
His main goal was to lean down, build muscle, and increase energy.
In 4 months he's dropped 17.4 lbs while starting to see his abs again since college.
Our strategy:
· Get high-quality prepped meals into his possession on automatic
· Strength training while doing a high-protein diet
· Planned for social occasions and travel so he knew exactly what to do and how to eat when away from home.
1 Quote to Finish Your Week Strong
"Thoughts are high energy. First, we must accept that all things have energy, which can be scientifically identified as a frequency of vibration at a quantum level, or a small footprint in the ether, or indeed, waves of electrical impulses."
― Trevor G. Blake from the book 3 Simple Steps
If your thoughts created reality how would you change the way you think?
Onwards and upwards,
- Dan
